One of the things I’ve been working on lately is a new quality standard for early pregnancy loss. What’s that? Well…
A new quality standard is being developed to address an often-silent, unexpected and heart-wrenching experience for many – early pregnancy complications and loss. It’s estimated that 1 in 5 pregnancies will end in miscarriage, with 80% of them occurring in the first trimester.
For clinicians, the draft quality standard offers guidance on the diagnosis, follow-up, and management of the physical and emotional aspects of care for patients experiencing early pregnancy complications or loss in all care settings.
It’s accompanied by a draft patient guide, to help patients ask informed questions of their health care providers.
Health Quality Ontario and the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Network (PAIL) are now seeking feedback on these materials.
